The ideals of “just war” have been directly violated by Israel, which must be addressed by the international community. Israel has violated humanitarian law by employing disproportionate tactics to attain its goals. The International Humanitarian Laws, derived from the 1949 Geneva Convention, established a fundamental foundation of principles for war. This includes some essential human rights, such as distinguishing between combatants and civilians during wartime. Whatever the opposing side has done, there is no justification for hitting people. However, Israel’s strikes have killed over 7000 Palestinians, including approximately 3000 children. This implies that Israel has used whatever methods possible to destabilize Palestinians who lack superior armaments to match Israel’s might.
According to Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, Israel’s settlement of its citizens in the occupied territory of Palestine is completely illegal. It declares that colonizing occupied land or transferring non-indigenous people to that land is unlawful. Furthermore, during this battle, Israel has been observed committing illegal atrocities against the Palestinian people. White phosphorus use during warfare is prohibited owing to its uncontrolled consequences, which result in serious burns and casualties. However, Israel is accused of using this chemical on Palestinian residents during ongoing crises. In addition, IHL has limited collective punishment, which includes cutting off citizens’ access to resources. Israel has used this as a means of punishing Palestinians, which is illegal.
Israel has used cutting off resources and access to basic commodities to subdue an already suffering populace. Following the Hamas attack in Israel, it declared a total blockade of Gaza. It has halted the delivery of food, medicine, fuel, and other supplies to Gaza, severely affecting the local population. Access to the internet has recently been restricted, making it difficult for Palestinian voices to reach the rest of the world. Nothing has been spared from the cruelty of tremendous power, including hospitals, citizens, and infrastructure. The basic right i.e. “right to life”, enshrined in various human right treaties has been violated while killing thousands of civilians. The liberty and freedom of the Palestinians is at stake due to their restriction on movement and the fear to be killed anytime. To the greatest extent feasible, Israel has violated every aspect of the Humanitarian laws that were to be followed during war.
Under Israeli occupation and blockade, social media has become one of the only free channels for Palestinians to communicate their tales to the rest of the world. Censorship and account suspensions, on the other hand, pose a risk to the site. As the Gaza crisis worsens, social media firms tighten their control even more. The quick transmission of misinformation and contradictory narratives exacerbates this. The West has been seen as siding with Israel in carrying out the atrocities and promoting misinformation about the war. Many reputed international media platforms have been seen propagating a narrative that seems to defend and justify Israel in committing its war crimes.
Despite certain political differences, the United States has directly supported Israel in these atrocities. In response to the recent Hamas attack, the US is deploying guided-missile ships and F-35 fighter planes, among other things, and Congress is anticipated to provide extra funding. Military aid from the United States to Israel has historically assisted the country’s military growth, and it continues to account for a sizable amount of Israel’s military budget. It has become less operationally significant as Israel’s own military production capabilities have grown, but the US has maintained its assistance as a statement of its unwavering support for Israel, particularly in light of global outrage over the country’s treatment of Palestinians.
International organizations like United Nations and European Union have been calling for a ceasefire through the end of these humanitarian crises. But no real progress has been seen on the matter and these organizations seem useless as a result. The Western world has been directly or indirectly assisting Israel in these humanitarian crises, while turning a blind eye to the sufferings of Palestinians fighting for their right to self-determination. There is a need that Israel should be confronted regarded its violations by the Muslim community collectively and present a strong stance to support Palestine and its right to resist.
