Centre for Law and Security organized a lecture titled ‘Legal Challenges in Deporting Illegal Immigrants’ on Tuesday, 5th December, 2023 at the Millennium Universal College (TMUC). The guest speaker invited for the occasion was Brig (Retd) Masud Ahmed Khan SI (M), former Commissioner Afghan Refugees Baluchistan. The lecture was attended by TMUC law students and faculty members.
Brig. (Retd) Masud Ahmed Khan delivered a detailed lecture in which he shed light on different phases of influx of Afghan Refugees in Pakistan from the era of Soviet invasion of Afghanistan to Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in 2021. He also discussed Pakistan’s historic commitment to international laws and institutions such as the UNHCR, and shed light on ethnic and economic dynamics of Afghan refugees residing inside Pakistan. While addressing the adverse impacts of refugees’ influx in Pakistan, Brig. (Retd) Masud stressed on the need of proper documentation of Afghan refugees.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session, in which law students and faculty members asked pertinent questions on Pakistan’s way forward. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Rehman Azhar, Executive Director, CLAS. At the end of the event, Mr. Rehman Azhar presented souvenir to Brig. (Retd) Masud Ahmed Khan SI (M).
